As the first week draws to a close, the Atomic Tourists wrap up their time in South Dakota with visits to Mount Rushmore (the most fun you can have with four stone presidential effigies) and Deadwood (if you really stretch the definition of the word “visit”). Then it’s on to Wyoming for cheap gas, cowboys, Devils Tower, and all the culinary delights that Gillette has to offer. Let’s just say it might not quite be the best a man can get. With the sun going down, it’s on to Montana, and some deep thoughts about billboards and burger toppings. It might be a good thing people are sleeping in tomorrow.

I think my favorite (unintentionally, I’m sure) recurring feature of these podcasts is Tara’s aside/ postscript as the music begins to swell. Yesterday’s update on Stroke Bag, today’s longing for a Blizzard. You think the show’s over, but no. You get one more giggle.

I told Jim yesterday that when you guys were planning this trip, I thought it sounded interesting but not like anything I would ever care to do myself. And yet, listening to your podcasts, I’m totally jealous and thinking about a road trip we could take.
Okay, I really just wanted to post this story but didn’t want it to show up in the “Recent Comments” section on the front page. I had the worst “intestinal distress” of my life after eating at a Fuddrucker’s in Binghamton, NY. I was 14 and visiting my friend’s grandma (why?) and I was in the back seat moaning about how I REALLY needed to go to the bathroom, so my friend and her mom were LAUGHING AT ME (thanks), and then her grandma had to go see some guy about a painting (what?) and I was like “HURRY UP, GRANDMA!” and then my friend’s mom laughed so hard she blew a snot on the steering wheel.
Bad times. I haven’t eaten there since. But next time you guys are in town, remind me to take you to Zebb’s, which also has a topping bar. Plus, fountain-made vanilla Cokes.
Also, sorry about the pen comment, Dave. Then again, no one forced you at gunpoint to take the picture, dude.

In fact, some people would have recommended at gunpoint that Dave NOT take that photo. Then when it was actually happening I couldn’t stop laughing.

Oh man they used to have a Fuddruckers in Victoria when I was a kid. It was so good. I think my favorite part was those awesome cookies. It closed down a long time ago and the building is now a liquor store.
